Caring for, and loving the elders in our family and community is the highlight of this traditional Chinese festival, the "Chongyang Festival" or "Double Ninth Festival".
At WenLin we believe that it is important for our children to appreciate that us parents and grandparents have worked hard for them, to grant them a better future and make the world we live in a better place. It is for all these reasons that we are holding this Competition, a great opportunity to invite our children to think about the loving sweet memories they have with their grandparents, the elders in the family or in the community, and what they can do to bring a smile on their face.
Entries for the Competition can be in the form of either a crafted greeting card, or a painting, a drawing, a story, poem etc.
Closing date for entries in the Competition is Saturday, 28th September. WenLin School will then organise a display of all the works received on Saturday, 5th October.
Top prize is one term Mandarin course for free, and runner up prize is a £50 book voucher!.
Also, on Monday, 7th October, we’d like to invite all families to do something for their elders to celebrate this festival together: even just a phone call to say, “mum, dad, grandma, grandad, it’s the Senior’s day today: thank you for everything you did for us!“
We therefore welcome all children’s and parents participation to celebrate this beautiful moment with their elders!
